Advantage

The LCE principle brings many advantages. Some of the most important ones are:

• simple mechanical construction
• optimal-regime-only operation
• higher power density and thermodynamic efficiency in comparison to a standard motor-generator
• option to use either combustion or diesel type
• compression ratio adjustable by a simple change in control software
• use of various fuels (hydrogen, gas, LPG, NG, bio gas, methyl alcohol, diesel, bio diesel, …)
• possibility of precise expansion phase control through variable electric supply

Disadvantage

Every system has its cons; here some of the important ones:

• need for a sophisticated control system
• every faulty thermodynamic cycle stops the motor - can be resolved by a control system
• higher vibration during operation - can be resolved by multiple cylinders or by shock absorbers
